2024 Olympics: Simone Biles Details Why She’s Wearing a Boot After Gymnastics Run
View Date:2024-12-23 23:48:29
Simone Biles is in recovery mode.
After the Olympic gymnast took home four medals at the 2024 Olympics, she shared how she is taking care of her body after the competition—and why she’s wearing a boot on her left leg.
“Calf is good,” she told NBC News on Aug. 5, following a minor calf injury. “It’s just precautionary, making sure, because we still have tour after this to heal up and all of that stuff. So, just a little bit of soreness.”
Early on in the competition, the 27-year-old’s coach, Cecile Landi, explained to NBC that Simone had been feeling a “little pain” in her calf, so the gymnast subsequently competed with her calf taped up throughout her Olympic events.
“I feel like elite athletes are pretty tough,” Simone reflected on performing through her injury to NBC. “So, we’re just, through pain or pleasure, we’re ready for whatever.”
And Simone also reflected on her comeback to the Olympics after dropping out of Tokyo 2020 to focus on her mental health after suffering from the “twisties."
“I’m a lot happier and I chose to do this,” she explained. “So, at the end of the day, whatever happens, happens. But I’m in a good spot mentally and physically, so you can’t take that away from me.”
In Paris, Simone helped earn Team USA—which also included Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Suni Lee and Hezly Rivera—a gold medal for the team all-around event. She also nabbed her own gold medals for the individual all-around and vault, and a silver for her individual floor routine.
But in addition to taking home medals for the U.S., Simone noted that she overall feels more appreciative of her run in the 2024 Olympics than in years past.
“This time around was really special,” Simone gushed. “It’s worth it because, I mean, we’re here in Paris, just won a couple medals, and it’s super exciting. You work your whole entire life for moments like this to represent your country on an Olympic stage, and we did just that this weekend. So we’re so proud.”
